LHS chosen as Torchbearer school

LINDEN &8212; The students, faculty and staff of Linden High School were honored last week when they were chosen by the State Department of Education as a Torchbearer School. This award is given to schools that achieve high academic standards and are in high poverty and minority area.

Linden High School has exceeded the standards set by the State Department for the past two years, Thurman said. The standards are based on the Alabama graduating exam.

Linden City Schools Superintendent Dr. Walter Davis said he was surprised and appreciative of the award.

Thurman said he is especially proud of the students based on their demographics.

Thurman said he expects the students to continue to excel in their learning.

The school is implementing a technology initiative that will broaden the knowledge barrier of the students, he said.

Thurman said not only is he excited about the technology advancements, but the students are anticipating it as well.
