The Demopolis High Tigers’ 2004 championship team was noted for their high-powered offense. Sometime when a team scores as much as the Tigers did in 2004, the defense gets over looked. In its 2004 season, the Demopolis defense recorded six shut-outs during the course of the regular 10-game season. They gave up and average of 12 points in the other four games that year. The Tiger defense gave up total average of 4.8 points for the season.

One of the members of the defensive team was Vincent Jackson. In the championship year Jackson recorded 77 tackles and had 10 interceptions. He was also defensive captain.

Jackson considered himself a hard worker willing to do what was necessary to help his team. His most memorable moment of the season was during the playoff against UMS-Wright. He picked off two passes on back-to-back possessions by UMS-Wright. Both interceptions were in the end zone and almost in the same spot.

During the championship game, Jackson credits the play making on both side of the ball being the difference in the game.

Jackson credits Demopolis head coach Doug Goodwin for making him feel like one of his sons in terms of the way he treats his players. And coach Goodwin’s work ethic has nee instrumental in his success at the college level

Jackson chose to play football at the University of North Alabama on the recommendation of Demopolis defensive coordinator Freddy Lawrence.

Jackson, a sophomore at UNA has just completed his second season under head coach Mark Hudspeth. One of his teammates happens to be Dusty Goodwin, a UNA quarterback and another Demopolis product.

Saw limited action as a back-up cornerback last season. Made five tackles with three solos and two assists.

Jackson, 5-9, 160lbs, has started this past season as the nichol back for Coach Hudspeth. He played in all twelve games for the UNA Lions this season. He recorded 13 tackles, eight of them solo tackles. He also recovered one fumble.

Jackson’s major at North Alabama is computer science.
