Workers death remains under investigation

LINDEN &045; The accident at Linden Lumber Co. that resulted in the death of an employee is still under investigation.

Jeff Funke, the assistant area director of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), said that the agency is still investigating the incident that lead to the death of Ronny Pritchett on Dec. 15. He said that the particulars of the investigation couldn’t be released until its conclusion.

Pritchett was working on the roof of the flooring plant when he fell through a skylight on the roof and died on impact. Marengo County Coroner Stuart Eatmon Sr. said that Pritchett was not wearing a safety harness at the time of the accident.

Eatmon said that the accident occurred around 1 p.m. and that he pronounced Pritchett dead at 1:30 p.m. He said no one else was injured in the accident.

Funke said that when OSHA investigates an incident and find a violation they propose a citation that is sent to the company. He said that they then give the company 15 days to do one of three things.

Funke said that OSHA is still in the fact-finding phase of investigating the case at Linden Lumber Company. Scott Kirkpatrick with human resources at the company said that the company is shut down right now.

Kirkpatrick said that the company has yet to hear back from OSHA about the incident.
