The race for the Marengo County Commission’s District 3 seat has yet to be settled. Charles Moore and John Crawford will face off in a run-off election July 18.

Moore won the June 6 primary against Crawford, but their tallies, Moore’s 765 and Crawford’s 681 didn’t meet the 50 percent mark needed to be a decisive winner. The odd man out of the race was Rex Vaughn, who only posted 92 votes.

With 26 of 27 precincts reporting, this is the only runoff for Marengo County.

In District 1, Freddie Armstead claimed a decisive victory with 778 votes beating his opponents Willard Williams (98 votes) and Mitchell Congress (290).

In District 5, Jerry Loftin took home the victory with a tally of 806 votes. Thomas Rodgers posted 720 votes, falling short of a run-off election.

In the Marengo County Sheriff race, incumbent Jesse Langley posted 4,024 votes, defeating his opponent Richard Bates’ mark of 2,568 votes.

Ernestine Wright came up with an unlucky number of votes, 666. But that proved enough to defeat her opponent Freddie Charleston, who only posted 464 votes.

In the State House of Representatives election, A.J. McCampbell returned 2,333 votes, decisively beating his opponents, Bette Maye with 538 votes and Christopher Spencer with 364 votes.

Incumbent Bobby Singleton posted a tally of 3,297 votes to soundly defeat his opponent Elijah Rollins’s mark of 718 votes in the State of Alabama’s Senate Race.

This shapes up the November election in races that were opposed.

The general election will also feature some new names, those running unopposed:

Circuit Court Judge Eddie Hardaway,

District Court Judge Wade Drinkard, Marengo County Probate Judge Cindy Neilson, Marengo County Coroner Stewart Eatmon and Marengo County Circuit Clerk Rusty Nichols.
