The culprits of last Tuesday’s vandalism spree in Demopolis will now face the consequence of their actions.

Only one day after making their initial arrest in last week’s vandalism case the second suspect, Robert Gene Avery, turned himself in to authorities.

Detective Sgt. Tim Soronen said the evidence against Avery, 23, was enough to prompt him to cooperate with authorities.

“We took an educated guess and with the information we received from the public, we determined he was involved. When we brought him in for questioning he confessed.”

Avery was arrested and charged with four counts of criminal mischief, third degree and criminal tampering, second degree.

The arrests of Avery and Christopher Marcus Overstreet, 20, brought an end to the investigation.

Police began searching for the pair last Wednesday after they received calls of vandalism on several area buildings between the hours of 5 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The calls involved vandalism to New Era Cap Company, Parr’s Chevron and two residences on Maria Avenue.

Witnesses were able to provide a description of the two and a partial tag number, which helped police locate Overstreet only hours after the incident occurred.

Soronen said they interviewed the pair about other incidents in the area, but ruled them out as suspects.
