The University of West Alabama is planning the following continuing education classes for the Demopolis University Center for early 2006.

Calligraphy: A beginning class is to be taught by Carolyn Nelson. Classes will be held on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 for four weeks beginning on Jan. 10. Class size will be limited for more individual instruction. Sign up early.

Oil Painting: By popular demand Lynda Ray will teach another class in painting beginning on Jan. 23. Please register early so that supplies may be purchased and you are sure to have a place. These classes will be held Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m. for six weeks.

Basic interior design: A new class in some of the basics of interior design will be taught by Kirk Brooker. Some elements to be covered will be vision, function, color, fabrics, furniture arrangement and accessories. The class will begin on Feb. 7 on Tuesday evenings and continue for six weeks. The time will be 6:30-8:30 p.m.

7-step chair canning: This class will be taught by Joyce Huizinga beginning on Jan. 18 on Wednesday afternoons from 1:30-3:30 p.m. for six weeks. Students may work on their own chairs or one provided by the instructor.

Chili sale at Demopolis Middle School

Demopolis Middle School will host a chili sale. Tickets go on sale from Nov. 15- Dec. 9. The chili is $6 per quart and can be picked up Jan. 28, 2006 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Demopolis Middle School. All proceeds from the sale go to the math department. Christmas in the Canebrake

Experience Christmas the old-fashioned way at Marengo County Historical Society’s Christmas in the Canebrake 2005.

Bluff Hall, Gaineswood and Lyon Hall will be filled with food, friends and songs of the season.

Christmas in the Canebrake is Thursday, December 1 from 5:30-8:00pm. Admission is $3 per house, 12 and under admitted free. For more information please contact the Marengo County Historical Society at (334) 289-9644.

Outsidein meets each Thursday night from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Come share the fun at Outsidein on Main Street in Greensboro.

On Friday evening, December 2nd, the city of York will light the City Christmas Tree in Grant Park.

The ceremony begins at 6:00 P.M. and is followed by the annual Mayor’s Reception in the Hightower Center.

The public is cordially invited to attend both events. The guest performer at the reception is internationally renown guitarist, John De Chiaro.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, the New Pentecostal Church of Greensboro, Ala., is pleased to announce and invite all of you to partake in this very special time as we reflect on our church’s past, cherish the present, and look towards the future. COTR Bake sale

You are invited to come to the DHS Anchor Club Booth in front of Liberty National, across from the drive-in at Robertson Bank downtown, on Saturday morning before, during, and after the parade.

The Anchor Club is a service organization for students and is affiliated with Pilot Club and will sell hot chocolate and baked goods provided by the Demopolis Pilot Club.

Local artist show art during COTR

Jessie Lavone, Karen Davidson, Linda Ray, Yvette Lawrence and Maryann Baker will display their works at the Christmas on the River Fair in the downtown public square from at 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come by booth 19 across from BankTrust and show your support.

First Christian offers chili supper

The First Christian Church of Demopolis will have a Chili Supper during Christmas on the River on Saturday, Dec. 3 from 4 until 6:30 p.m. This is open to the entire community. Anyone attending the Christmas on the River activities wishing to have a sitdown meal can come to the church and have dinner in the church fellowship hall. The Chili will be $3 per bowl and drinks will be available for purchase as well. The church will be giving

one bowl of chili for free to all Demopolis police officers who wish to come and eat.

The proceeds from the Chili Supper will be divided 2 ways: 50 percent to the United States Marine Corps Toys for Tots and 50 percent

We invite you to join First Baptist Church Adult Ensemble Reflections, along with our Children’s Choir as we present a musical/drama entitled “Wondrous Gift” – The Treasure of Jesus on Sunday, Dec. 4 in the FBC Sanctuary at 6 p.m. This will prove to be an evening of delight and worship as we begin this Christmas Season in anticipation of Jesus’ birth.

Perry County holds Christmas home tour

Perry County’s Historical&Preservation Society will hold its annual Christmas home tour and Parade of Christmas Trees on Sunday, Dec. 4, from 2:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon. A $10 ticket and map will be available at the Perry County Historical Society’s headquarters, the Marion Female Seminary building. The seminary will also feature the Christmas trees that are designed by creative local people. Downtown businesses will be open that Saturday for Christmas gift bargain-hunters to browse and buy. Included on the tour is one of Alabama’s most storied, and most unique homes – Kenworthy-Carlisle Hall on Highway 14. Current owner Loyd Anderson expects many guests to come see the restoration work he and his staff have done on the stately old manor.

Two Arts-and-Crafts homes, the Mikleboro-Washburn Bungalow and the Burnes home

across from Judson will also be on the tour, highlighting an important but often overlooked

Annual Eutaw parade set

The annual Eutaw Christmas Parade will take place Saturday, Dec. 10 at 10 a.m. on the historic Greene County Courthouse Square. After the parade a Christmas Fair will feature entertainment for all ages.

DEC. 11

Wesley Chapel UMC holds Christmas Cantatas

Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church will be presenting their annual Christmas Cantatas on December 11, 2005.

The youth’s cantata will start at 5:00 p.m. followed by the adult cantata.

Refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall immediately following the cantatas.

Magnolia Grove open house

The Magnolia Grove Foundation sponsors a holiday open house on Sunday, December 11, from 1-3 p.m. at Magnolia Grove in Greensboro. Magnolia Grove is located at 1002 Hobson Street in Greensboro’s historic district.
