EUTAW-For the second time in a month Greene County authorities have recovered stolen vehicle. Greene County Sheriff Johnny Isaac reported Monday a vehicle reported to have been stolen out of Bessemer on a Greene County road earlier that morning. According to Isaac the vehicle was discovered on fire somewhere along County Road 208.

Isaac said they had determined the owner of the vehicle, but were not sure how the fire began.

“The vehicle, which was a 2002 Mitsubishi Diamonte was owned by Jewanda Wallace,” Isaac said. “It was on fire when we found it. The Springfield Fire Department came and put it out. We aren’t sure if they rode it down here and set it on fire or if it just ran hot and caught on fire.”

Isaac said there were no suspects and no arrests had been made.

The recovery comes on the heals of another recovery two short weeks ago. On Sept. 20 Isaac’s deputies recovered a 1990 Chevrolet on a routine patrol of Pleasant Ridge in the Lewiston area.

This vehicle, which had been stolen out of Tuscaloosa County, had also been burned by the time it was discovered by authorities. In the case involving the Chevrolet the automobile had been stripped and the transmission stolen.

Fire was the only damage reported to the Mitsubishi. It is unknown if the incidents are related. Isaac said the incident is still under investigation.

Greene authorities are also investigating a theft in which several hundred dollars worth of equipment was stolen from Beeker Timber Company. Isaac said on Friday Sept. 30 they received a call from the company saying the door had been pried open and several items were missing. Among the missing items were two nail guns, valued at $395, a DeWalt skill saw, valued at $199, and a Craftsman air compressor, valued at $175. Isaac said there were no suspects in the case.
