The Demopolis Middle School volleyball team’s season only lasted a month and consisted of all of four games. But that doesn’t mean that wasn’t enough time for coach Keesha Johnson to understand what kind of team she was coaching.

“This is a great group of girls,” she said Thursday evening after DMS had won their season finale over Westlawn Middle School, three games to one. “I had a lot of fun coaching them. We went 3-1, so that’s a pretty good season.”

To finish their season on a high note, the Tigers had to rebound from a three-games-to-none loss against York West End Wednesday afternoon. But DMS came out ready to do so against Westlawn, with early service by Nikki Gaitor and Erin White giving DMS a quick 4-1 lead. Back-to-back solid plays by Nicole Davis and a sharp return by Keely Rodrigues built the lead to 14-7. Westlawn would draw no closer than six the rest of the way as a White serve and Davis return set Samantha Walker up to serve out the final three points of the game.
