Demopolis Chamber to host birding group
The Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce will host the Black Belt and Piney Wood Birding Trail meeting on Feb. 18, 10:30 a.m., at the chamber office.
The Black Belt and Piney Wood Birding Trails are part of Alabama’s Birding Trails, a project sponsored by the Alabama Tourism Department, the Alabama Department of Conversation and National Resources and the University of Alabama Center for Economic Development.
Candace Skelton from the University of Alabama Center for Economic Development will facilitate the meeting.
“We are very excited to be a part of the Alabama Birding Trail as this is another outlet for citizens and tourists alike to enjoy the great Alabama outdoors,” Skelton said. “So far a website, an app, rack cards, road signage and interpretive signage have been developed to spread the word about the wonderful birding in Alabama through the Alabama birding trail. A recent addition to our development for the future of the trail, thanks to our statewide partners is the mapping and identification of outdoor classrooms, which are locations that can accommodate a group where teachers can bring students for lessons relating to nature.”
The public is encouraged to visit the Alabama Birding Trails’ website and like them on Facebook to discover ways to get involved and for events and sites near you.
From Spillway Falls Park, Foscue Creek Park and Demopolis River Walk in Demopolis to Chickasaw State Park in Linden, Marengo County boasts several sites for birders.
