Linden police officer injured after car accident following pursuit

A Linden Police Department patrol officer was involved in a car accident on Dec. 14 after pursuing a speeding vehicle. Linden Police Chief Robert Alston said the officer received minor injuries from the accident, but the car is totaled.

Officer Michael Harrington was traveling on Alabama Highway 69 South when a vehicle drove past him at 92 mph. Harrington attempted to initiate a stop, but began pursuing the vehicle around 8:04 p.m. when the driver did not pull over.

According to Alston, at 8:05 p.m. Harrington drove around a curve too fast, resulting in him running off the road and clipping a power pole before a hitting a tree.

Harrington was taken by ambulance to Choctaw General Hospital and was admitted at 9:30 p.m. with a laceration to his forehead and an injured right ankle and left arm. Alston said he received 16 stitches before being discharged at 2 a.m. Saturday.

Alston also said that the LPD is currently investigating the identity of the other driver.
