Upcoming bazaar an annual tradition for First United Methodist Church

The First United Methodist Women will host their annual fundraising bazaar on Nov. 14, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at FUMC.

Several different rooms will be featured at the bazaar including an attic treasures room, a bake sale and a silent auction.

“The things in the attic treasures room will be gently-used items and in the silent auction will be handmade items and new items donate by vendors here in Demopolis,” Bazaar Chairman Martha Sampson said.

She also said that some items featured at the bazaar will posted to the Facebook page “Bazaar Buzz FUMC Demopolis.”

Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will be a chicken salad plate with a pimento cheese sandwich, a drink and dessert for $8. Take-out and dine-in options are available. Take-out options can be picked up at the front of the church building on Strawberry Street, according to Sampson.

There will also be a drawing for a handmade afghan at the event at 3 p.m. Raffle tickets are available for $1 from any FUMW member.

“The profits of this bazaar go to community mission programs in Marengo County and surrounding areas,” Sampson said.

Some of the missions benefited by the bazaar include the University of West Alabama Wesley Foundation, mission trips, Operation Christmas Child, the Apple Tree Project and the Demopolis Food Pantry.

According to Sampson, the FUMW have been hosting the annual bazaar for over 60 years. “People enjoy contributing and getting out and seeing friends that they might not have seen since last year because some people come from surrounding areas,” she said, adding that people also enjoy “supporting the community and the church.”

Sampson said the bazaar can be accessed through the back door of the church by the parking lot.

The FUMC is located at 200 E. Decatur St. For more information or to purchase a raffle ticket, call the church at 334-289-1933 or Sampson at 334-289-4351.
