Gladys (Polly) Brown Dinning

Gladys Brown Dinning (Polly) of Demopolis passed away May 16, 2016.
Polly was active in her church and in her community. She spent decades working for the First United Methodist Church Bazaar and as a Sunday School teacher in the Children’s Department where she dearly loved “her” children there. She started and managed the Friendship Club for seniors at the church until she was essentially the oldest one in attendance. With her friends Martha Sue Clem and Betty Mayton she organized and ran the Crippled Children’s Clinic in Demopolis as long as it was offered. She was a matriarch and supporter for the Demopolis Boxing Club through the years when her husband, Woody, was coaching. She was honored by the Rotary Club as a Paul Harris Fellow for her civic activities. Polly was an avid Alabama fan and attended all home games until she was 88.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Korrie Brown; her husband, Woodford Wyndham Dinning; and her daughter, Sharon Dinning Davis.
She is survived by her brother, Clarence Brown and his wife, Willie Mae; a nephew, Steve Brown; daughter, Paula Dinning Stutts and Paul; son-in-law, Jerry Davis; son, Woodford Wyndham Dinning Jr.; beloved daughter-in-law and caretaker, Tammy Dinning; and daughter, Korrie Dinning Brown; grandchildren, Melanie Stutts Williams, Kenneth Stutts, Allen Davis, Wyndham Dinning, Scott Cannon, Alston Dinning, Zachary Brown, and Kate Brown; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday, May 18, 3 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Demopolis with visitation at 2 p.m., before the service. Kirk Funeral Homes Demopolis Chapel will be directing and Rev. David Willis officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Building Fund of the First United Methodist Church in Demopolis.
