Rotarians hope to make splash with raffle

Demopolis Rotary Club members are selling raffle tickets for a 2018 EZGO Gas Freedom Golf Cart in order to raise funds to build a splash pad at the Demopolis City Landing.

Raffle tickets are $50, and participants do not have to be present at the event to win. Winners will be announced on May 4 at the Rotary Charity Golf Tournament.

Katie Windham, who serves on the executive board of the Rotary Club and is in charge of all service projects, said the splash pad would have many benefits for the community.

“I think it’s an added quality of life benefit for not only Demopolis but really the county,” Windam said.

She added that the splash pad could enhance the value of the property upon which it is built and would prevent families from having to travel out of the area to enjoy such a recreation.

The splash pad will cost approximately $60,000, and Windham said the club seeks to raise between $5,000 and $10,000 with the raffle.

Windham added that the Rotary Club already has some funds secure and are actively looking for other ways to fund the splash pad.

“We have some other things that are going to come into play, as well,” she said.

Early plans involve building the pad at the City Landing. Rotarians and city officials have agreed that once constructed by the club, the city would provide water and maintenance.

Windham said to “seek out any Rotarian” to purchase a raffle ticket or to make a donation.
