Rodeo coming to Demopolis Sportsplex, April 27 and 28
The rodeo is coming to the Demopolis Sportsplex on Friday, April 27, and Saturday, April 28, at 7 p.m. on both nights. The first annual Sportsplex Pro Rodeo is a combined effort of the City of Demopolis Parks and Recreation Department and the Double Creek Rodeo Company.
“We haven’t had a rodeo down here at the Sportsplex in a couple of years,” said Walker Reynolds, executive director of the Parks and Recreation Department.
Reynolds said that the Southeastern Professional Rodeo Association sanctioned rodeo is meant to raise money and interest for a variety of projects including youth sports hosted at the Sportsplex, improving current facilities and building an indoor rodeo arena.
“I think it’ll be a huge boost for the economy,” Reynolds said of the arena.
Bill Hudson, owner and stock contractor of Double Creek Rodeo Company, said that there will be several events at the rodeo including calf roping, team roping, barrel racing, bull riding and more. Kids will be able to participate in a calf scramble with a prize given away afterwards.
The announcer will be Austin Williams, and the rodeo clown will be Marshall Greene.
Tickets are $15 for this rain or shine event. The gates open at 5:30 p.m.
