Student struck by vehicle after exiting bus

Six-year-old said to have suffered minor injuries; in stable condition

A Demopolis elementary school student was struck by a vehicle Thursday afternoon after exiting a school bus on his way home.

According to a statement from the Demopolis Police Department, officers responded at 3:19 p.m. to a street within the Demopolis Housing Authority where the 6-year-old child was struck.

Officials said the child was crossing the street after exiting the bus when he was hit by a vehicle passing the bus. The driver of the vehicle stopped and remained on the scene until law enforcement arrived.

“The vehicle’s driver reported that she did not see the child but stopped when the accident happened,” stated a DPD press release.

The child was transported by ambulance to Brian W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital with minor injuries and is in stable condition, according to police.
