LIVINGSTON — An explosive third inning and dominant pitching performance by Jessica Brock leads the University of West Alabama softball team to a 10-0 victory over Tuskegee in the second game of the doubleheader. UWA (5-7) dropped the opening game 6-5 in eight innings.

Brock pitched a complete game, no-hit shutout for the first time in the Red and White en route to her fourth victory of the season. The Gallion, Ala., native registered a career-high 10 strikeouts while walking just 4 batters.

The Tigers capitalized on four walks and a pair wild pitches to hang 7 runs on the scoreboard in the third frame. The trio of Taylor Miller, Tamara Vickers and Rebecca Schick each singled to drive in a run during the inning while Brooklyn Phillips added the only other hit.

UWA opened the contest scoring 3 runs in the first two innings with a solo spot in its first at-bat and a pair of runs in the second inning.

A Phillips sacrifice fly to left field plated the first Tiger run as Vickers scored. Vickers then drove in Nicole Bailey to score the first of 2 runs in the second inning on a triple to right center. The Lawndale, Calif., native then scored on a wild pitch for the final run of the frame.

TU (3-3) walked eight total Tigers in the contest and recorded six wild pitches in the loss.

UWA jumped out to an early 4-2 lead after five innings, but the Lady Golden Tigers posted 4 runs in their final two at-bats to rally for the win in the opening game.

A pair of bunts led to visiting Tigers’ runs in the seventh inning while Moore and Stewart each drove in runs in the eighth to give TU just enough run support for the opening game victory.

Schick added the first couple of runs in the contest with her fourth homerun of the season – a 2-run homer to left field – scoring Vickers.

TU cut the lead in half in the top of the second and then knotted the contest at 2-all in the fourth.

The Tigers answered with a run in the home half of the fourth on a Bailey double down the left field line to score Brittany Smith. UWA extended its margin back to 2 runs in the fifth as Vickers logged a triple to right center that scored Mandi Headrick.

UWA added a run in the eighth frame on a Schick double to left center as Angela Arredondo scored.

Hannah Griffin (0-3) took the loss in the circle with 4 runs allowed on a pair of hits in two innings of work. Kristen Skinner pitched five innings in the start surrendering 2 runs on 4 hits with 8 strikeouts. Phillips pitched the remainder inning allowing just a hit.
