Charles Moore beat incumbent Mitzi Gates in a run-off Tuesday to decide who will be Linden’s mayor the next four years.

Moore gathered 484 votes, compared to 210 marks for Gates.

Moore said he hopes to help move Linden forward and see how it looks in four years.

“I’ve been in this thing a long time,” he said, “and this is one of the greatest places to live. The public has spoken and I hope to move the town forward. I’m going to give it my best shot. I want to thank the public of Linden, the people who worked on my campaign, and my wife for putting up with me.”

Moore added that he know everyone wants jobs, and that if he can’t bring them to Linden, he wants to help bring them to Marengo County.

Gates thanked her supporters in her re-election campaign.

“I am grateful to my supporters,” she said, “and even more grateful to those I can call friends.”

She added that she hopes Moore can accomplish even more than she was able to while in office.

“I hope he can accomplish even more than I was able to,” she said, “but having said that, I am happy with what we were able to do. I know the next four years will be a great opportunity for him to make Linden better and I wish him all the best.”
