Linden to name Superintendent

The Linden Board of Education will name a new Superintendent on Monday in a board meeting.

The search has been ongoing since Dr. Tyone Smith and the board entered into an agreement to go their separate ways in June. There was a heated meeting in March in which Smith berated some board members during a 30-minute-long speech.

George Baldwin has served as the interim superintendent since the split. The board conducted interviews on Tuesday. Those interviewed were Sonya Pope-Simmons of Sweet Water, Dr. Rhinnie Scott, director of the Greene County Career Center, interim superintendent George Baldwin and Linden High School principal Timothy Thurman.

This is the sixth month since Smith left the board, and there can only be an interim superintendent for 180 days.
