The opportunity to get an inside look into the jobs of those patrolling the streets of Demopolis is almost underway.

The Demopolis Police Department is now accepting applications for the upcoming session of its Citizens Police Academy.

The course is designed to engage residents in the life of a police officer all while teaching residents more about their local department. Along the way, many relationships are made and a lot of class memories are developed.

Some activities the class has done in the past include going to the shooting range, learning about cyber crime and a host of other things.

The class typically meets one day a week and have a set agenda of what they will learn more about each session.

After the course, students have the choice to join the alumni association that serves as a support organization for the department.

Recently, the alumni association presented Demopolis Police Chief Tommie Reese with a donation check to be used at the department.

Reese said he encourages all those interested to fill out an application and apply for the academy.

If anyone is interested in being a part of the academy, should visit www.demopd.org to get an application or come by the department.

This session will begin on March 19, 2013, at 5:30 p.m.

All applications must be submitted by March 4, 2013.
