Spring sports heating up around MarengoBy Matt Cole Published 3:30pm Wednesday, February 20, 2013
Spring sports around the county are getting under way, and there will be no shortage of games and events over the next few months.
Softball, baseball, soccer, tennis and golf have already held their first contests and track will kick off their season the first week in March.
Demopolis High School is the only school in the county that fields a team in each of these sports. Sweet Water and Marengo Academy both have only baseball and softball, while Linden, A.L. Johnson, Marengo High School and John Essex only have track teams in the spring.
DHS will hold its first home baseball games on Friday, Feb. 22 against Wetumpka and Leroy. Their first home softball game will be Tuesday, Feb. 26 against Sweet Water.
The soccer team is 2-2 so far this season with wins over Hillcrest and Bryant and losses to Northridge and Holy Spirit Catholic.

Marengo Academy’s three-time defending champion softball team will start their season on the road at Sumter Academy on Tuesday, March 5.
