Kileema Rogers did not hit many shots, but made timely baskets Friday night, helping the Lady Patriots down Demopolis 45-42.
The Patriot junior drained a three-pointer with 1:20 to go in the game to tie the score at 39 before popping another trey with 7.5 to play that pushed the score to 45-42 and proved to be the game winner.
“That was a big shot,” LHS head coach Teressa Thomas said. “She had been missing a lot of them tonight, but she hit it when we needed it.”
Rogers’ shot staved off a Patriot collapse. Linden led by as many as 11 in the game before a Demopolis second half rally tied the game on three separate occasions in the fourth quarter. Katrina Benison connected on a free throw with 17.9 to play to tie the game at 42 before Rogers made the clincher.
“We’re going to see something positive come out of this,” DHS head coach Tony Pittman — whose team is playing without three players due to a suspension — said. “It’s giving (the younger players) a great opportunity to play a lot of minutes. I know it’s going to help up come tournament time.”
Linden’s Terrica Craig led all scorers with 16 points and four steals. Rogers finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots. Eighth-grader Shauntele Gray had eight points and seven rebounds while Jasmine Rember had a team high nine boards.
Corneshia Perkins led DHS with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Megan Smith had 12 points. Benison had eight boards and Demekeia Marshall scored all seven of her points from the free throw line.
