Mr. Alexander “Alex” Crawford, Jr., age 85, died Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Colonial Haven Care and Rehabilitation Ctr. in Greensboro.
Graveside services will be 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at St Andrews’ Cemetery in Prairieville with Rev. David Pierce officiating.
The family will receive friends Monday, February 1, 2010 at Kidd-Robbins Funeral Home Chapel from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
Mr. Crawford was preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Helen Mayton Crawford; his parents, Alexander Crawford and Ada Oliver Crawford; his three sisters, Laura Anna Crawford, Allie Frances Knight and Grace C. Graf: his four brothers, James Monroe Crawford, Billy Oliver Crawford, Robert Lee Crawford and Solomon Dorsey “Chuck” Crawford.
Survivors include one daughter, Cecile C. Sledge and her husband, Joe of Greensboro
One son, Alexander Bruce Crawford and his wife Amy of Montgomery.
Three grandchildren, Matthew Sledge of Birmingham, Molly Crawford of Atlanta and Thomas Crawford of Auburn.
Mr. Crawford was born in Coleman, Texas, in 1928 he moved to the Prairie Eden Community and married his late wife Helen Mayton Crawford on November 18, 1951. He was a longtime cattleman in Prairie Eden where he lived most his life, He was one of the organizers of the Allenville Swimming Pool Club and organized the Prairie Eden Community Club. He was a life long cattleman, he served as Past President of the Hale County Cattleman’s Association and was long-time a member of The Alabama Cattleman’s Association. He was a member of Demopolis First United Methodist Church, Where he was a member of The Methodist Men’s Club and of the Couple’s Sunday School Class.
