Janet Gibbs Broughton, age 71, of Smith passed away on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at her home after battling bone cancer.
She lived in Demopolis for more than 40 years while working in banking. She spent the last eight years in Phenix City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Broughton; her parents, Henry and Mary Gibbs; and three sisters, Angelee Gibbs Yelverton, Myrtle Gibbs Yelverton and Deloris Gibbs McEvilly.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Broughton Cargile of Opelika and Karon Broughton (Tom) Burgess of Phenix City; a son, Kenneth Arnold (Beverly Averette) Broughton Jr. of Greensboro; three brothers, Henry, Hager and Norman Gibbs, all of Selma; four grandchildren, Laura Meredith Moseley of Opelika, Kenneth Baily Broughton, Victoria Xil Broughton and Scottie Fike of Greensboro; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, Feb. 8, at 1 p.m. at the Mount Hermon Methodist Church in Greensboro with the Rev. Mike Pearson officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at the church fellowship hall. Kidd-Robbins Funeral Directors of Demopolis is directing the services.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Gibbs, Don Yelverton, Tommy Yelverton, Mike Yelverton, Larry Mitchell and Brandon Bonds.
