Lois Steele Cornett

Lois Steele Cornett, age 92, of Demopolis passed away on July 23, 2010, at her home.

She was born on March 19, 1918, in Centreville to the late James LaFayette and Etha Johnson Steele. She was a graduate of Bibb County High School in 1936 and a member of the Brent Presbyterian Church, where her father, Jim Steele, was a charter member. She was employed by the Miller Lumber Company, where she retired after 30 years of service. After retirement, she moved to Demopolis to be near her sister, Nell Coleman.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, William Felton Cornett II.

Survivors include a son, Dr. William Felton Cornett III of Alpharetta, Ga.; a sister, Nell Steele Coleman of Demopolis; two granddaughters, Catherine Cornett Eddins and Kimberly Steele Cornett Moore; one great-granddaughter, Kendall Steele Moore; and three great-grandsons, Thomas Eddins IV, Reeves Eddins and Mason Alexander Moore.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 27, at 10:30 a.m. at the Brent Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jeff Pate officiating. Burial followed in the Brent Cemetery. Kirk Funeral Homes Demopolis Chapel directed the services.

Pallbearers were Tom McHale, Allen McKinney, Charles Averette, James Utsey and Dr. William Felton Cornett. Honorary pallbearers were Ed Partridge, Jack Stacy, Joe Bolling, John Bolling and Milton Bolling.
