LIVINGSTON – The Alabama Senate has approved without dissent Gov. Robert Bentley’s appointment of a University of West Alabama graduate to the UWA Board of Trustees.
Winfield insurance agent William D. “Bill” Sager, a 1977 business administration graduate, joined the Board for his first quarterly meeting June 13. A past member of the Winfield City Board of Education and City Council, Sager will serve through 2013.
Sager, an agent and part owner of Your Insurance Centers, Inc., has served the insurance needs of the Winfield, Hamilton, and Haleyville communities since 1980. Prior to his career in insurance, Sager worked in the Livingston University (now UWA) Office of Admissions after graduation and was promoted to Director of Student Affairs.
The former Winfield mayor has remained active in the UWA community over the years since his graduation, having served a term as president of the UWA National Alumni Association. He hopes his appointment as trustee will help further his support and guidance for the University.
“I’m thankful for the confidence placed upon me to fill this position. I hope I can make a positive difference that will help the faculty, administration, staff and students,” Sager said at his first board meeting. “I look forward to having the opportunity to serve the UWA community in this capacity.”
“We are very pleased to have Bill join our board. I know he has his alma mater’s best interests in mind as we together serve this institution and work for its continued growth and success,” said UWA President Richard D. Holland.
Sager is a member of Kiwanis Club; Winfield Area Chamber of Commerce; Northwest Medical Center Board of Directors (Winfield); and he serves as association president and board of directors executive committee for the Alabama Independent Insurance Agents Association. He and wife Cindy have one daughter, Shelley and son-in-law Allan Blocker.
