Frankie Kirkham Cannon

Frankie Kirkham Cannon, age 94, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2011, at the Marengo Nursing Home in Linden, Alabama. “Miss Frankie”, as she was affectionately known, was born on August 27, 1916 in Beaver Creek, near Sweet Water. A lifelong resident of Alabama, she graduated from Livingston University with a teaching degree, and taught school in a one room schoolhouse in what was known as the “Cannon Community” near Hugo.

She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Octagon for many years until she and her husband moved to Butler approximately 18 years ago and joined Calvary Baptist Church where they were active members.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Roy Cannon and their son, Grady Eugene Cannon.

She is survived by three children – Larry Cannon (Cindy) of Columbus, Georgia, Susan Thompson (John) of Butler, and Kathy Armistead (Paul) of Jachin, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, one sister Sudie Kirkham Reid of Thomasville, Alabama and one brother J.D. Kirkham of Rochester, Pennsylvania.

Visitation will be at Bumpers Funeral Home in Butler on Wednesday, July 27th from 6 – 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Octagon on Thursday, July 28th at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Daniel Gandy and the Reverend Franklin McLelland officiating. Burial will be afterwards at the Holt Cemetery near Thomaston, Alabama.
