The Marengo Academy Longhorns basketball teams traveled to Huntingdon College in Montgomery on Wednesday to play in the AISA Elite Eight.
The Lady Horns went up against Edgewood Academy, and came away with a win, 46-28, to move them into the AISA Final Four, in which they will face Patrician Academy on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 9 a.m.
Chandler Stenz led the Lady Horns in scoring with 12 points, and Brooke Smyly added 9 points of her own.
Head coach Danny Stenz said Patrician will be a tough matchup in the final four.
“They’ll be a tough matchup for us,” he said. “Gabby George is a good ballplayer for them. They’re in our region, and we beat them twice during the season, but it’s really tough to beat a team three times in the same year.”
In the first matchup of the season, Marengo went to Patrician and came away with a 52-47 victory. When Patrician came to Linden to face the Longhorns, Marengo won more handily, by a score of 56-38.
Patrician (18-11) got to the final four with a 49-43 win over Chambers Academy on Wednesday evening.
In the Marengo Academy boys’ game, Lakeside Academy defeated the Longhorns 47-31. The loss ends the Longhorns╒ season with a final record of 11-16.
Carson Huckabee led the Longhorns with 12 points.
