Sandra Elizabeth Mathews Ward, 77, wife of the late Frank Gleason Ward Jr., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 6 in Fernandina, Fla.

Born in Fernandina on Dec. 8, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Schley Dewey Mathews Sr. and the late Elizabeth Wilson Tiner Mathews. She attended high school in Fernandina, class of 1953. She lived in Demopolis and most recently in Spanish Fort, before returning to Fernandina.

She leaves behind her three daughters, Elizabeth (Gene) Griffith of Spanish Fort, Dot (Garry) Cason of Brunswick, Ga., Nina (Randy) Cleveland of Fort Worth, Texas; and her grandchildren Martha and Dorothy Griffith, Rachel and Jonathan Cason. She is also survived by her sister, Gwendolyn M. (Bill) Miller of Fernandina; her sister-in-law, Iris Ward, also of Fernandina, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Schley Dewey Mathews Jr.; and her sister, Mary Mathews Price.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov.r 8, 2013 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Home in Fernandina Beach, Fla. Burial will follow in Bosque Bello Cemetery.

Visitation was held Thursday, Nov. 7 from 6-7 p.m. at Oxley Heard.
