The Demopolis High School River City Blue Marching Band will travel to Orlando in December to participate in the Russell Athletic Bowl.

Members of Demopolis High School’s River City Blue marching band will be enjoying part of their winter break from school in the Sunshine State.
The band has been invited by WorldStrides OnStage to perform at the Russell Athletic Bowl in Orlando, Florida. They will join marching bands from across the country in the halftime show finale of the major college bowl game. An invitation to perform at the Russell Athletic Bowl is an honor reserved only for the most talented student performers from across the nation.
Under the direction of Matt Fields, the Demopolis High School marching band will travel to Orlando where they will rehearse with the mass band and learn from nationally acclaimed adjudicators. In their free time, they will take in the sights of Orlando.
Fields has been teaching for 10 years and will be personally leading the Demopolis High School group of Demopolis students to Orlando. The trip to the Russell Athletic Bowl is the first time in school history that the marching band has participated in a collegiate bowl game performance.
In addition to performing in the Russell Athletic Bowl, the Demopolis High School band will also be marching in the Macy’s Holiday Parade at Universal Studios in Orlando.
The band is currently raising funds to help students make the trip. To learn how you can help with these fundraising efforts, contact Fields at demopolisband@gmail.com or call 334-289-0294, ext. 5254.
