Marengo County’s positive cases of COVID-19 currently sit at 4,532 according to the Alabama Department of Public Health. There have been 109 new cases so far in 2022.

As of Monday, January 31, the total number of deaths related to the virus from 2020 to 2022 is 94. One new death has been reported.

The Marengo County Health Department has information available for obtaining a COVID-19 vaccination. Visit MCHD online portal at ALCovidVaccine.gov to check your eligibility for vaccination and make appointments for COVID-19 vaccinations at county health departments. Some county health departments are providing drive-thru or walk-in clinics. Search for clinics near you using the Vaccine Clinic Dashboard or COVID-19 Table.

The Alabama Department of Public Health has extended eligibility for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to include individuals ages 5-11 and 12-17. Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are all available to individuals 18 years of age and older.

The CDC is working with state and local public health officials to monitor the spread of Omicron. As of December 20, 2021, Omicron has been detected in most states and territories and is rapidly increasing the proportion of COVID-19 cases it is causing. The Omicron variant likely will spread more easily than the original SARS-CoV-2 virus and how easily Omicron spreads compared to Delta remains unknown. CDC expects that anyone with Omicron infection can spread the virus to others, even if they are vaccinated or don’t have symptoms.

COVID-19 data for surrounding counties includes Sumter County has reported 2,271 cases and 43 deaths; Wilcox County has 2,682 cases and 39 deaths; Greene County has 1,731 cases and 47; Hale County has 4,383 and 95 deaths; Clarke County, 6,756 cases and 89 deaths; Dallas County is reporting 7,813 cases with 220 deaths; Choctaw County has 1,778 cases and 33 deaths; and Perry County is reporting 1,953 cases with 41 deaths.

The statewide number of confirmed cases from 2020 to 2022 is 1,218,257 with 6,490 new cases. In Alabama, 8,422,495 COVID-19 vaccines have been delivered, and 5,718,544 doses have been administered.
