UWA and UWG split softball double header

LIVINGSTON – Taylor Miller had a pair of hits and drove in three runs to lead West Alabama to a 6-2 victory in the first game and a split of a Gulf South Conference softball doubleheader with West Georgia Saturday at the UWA Softball Complex. The Wolves won the nightcap, 5-3.

The split leaves UWA with a 23-12 overall record, 10-10 in GSC play. West Georgia is 13-22 and 6-16. The Tigers finish a four-game homestand by hosting Shorter in a Sunday doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.

After allowing two runs in the first inning, Sarah Ray (14-4) settled in and went the distance for the win in the first game. She scattered seven hits, struck out five and walked one. Starter Megan Roberts (4-7) was tagged with the loss. UWG starter Katie Shultes (9-11) was the winner in the second game while Jessica Brock (4-6) absorbed the loss.

Whitney Brown had three hits and drove in two runs in the two games for the Tigers. Michal Robertson had two hits in the first game. Brooklynn Phillips doubled and scored a pair of runs in the opener.

Haley Richards had four hits, three in the second game to pace West Georgia. Nicole Yancey had three hits and drove in three in the two games for the Wolves.
