McHale Reaches 3,000 Assists In UWA Volleyball Loss To West Florida

LIVINGSTON – Alexis McHale became just the second Tiger in program history to record 3,000 assists, but the University of West Alabama dropped its fourth consecutive conference match Tuesday night at Pruitt Hall. The 3-1 loss to West Florida drops UWA to 4-11 (0-4 Gulf South Conference) while the Argos improve to 11-4 (3-0 GSC).

The junior from Sugar Land, Texas entered the contest needing 11 assists to reach the plateau, and McHale joined Christy Ricks as the only players in the UWA record books with 3,000 helpers as she dished out a team-high 20 on the night.

The junior is chasing Ricks’ 3,612 mark to set a new school record.

The Tigers played with a feisty spirit during the entire match but fell in the first two sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-19. The Argos hit at a solid .476 clip in the first frame to set its own tone for the contest.

UWA cut the deficit to 2-1 by hitting .303 in the third frame to win 25-21, but the guests wrapped up the contest with a 25-18 victory in the fourth set.

Katelyn Beardshear led the Tigers offensively on the night as she recorded 11 kills and compiled a season-high .400 hitting percentage. Angela Sanders earned double-figures in kills as well with 10. Joining McHale in the assist column was Olivia Drew who chipped in with 16.

Casey Byrnes led all players in the contest with 19 digs, and Thais Hollerbach added 14.

For the match, the Tigers were outhit by UWF .245 to .163.

UWA will try to get back on the winning side of the ledger this weekend as it travels to New Orleans to face Loyola (La.) and Dillard on Saturday.
