After a tough loss Tuesday night against Linden, the Demopolis 7-8 all-stars bounced back in a big way with a 15-4 win over Greensboro at the Sports-Plex.

“We just played better tonight,” said Demopolis manager Hugh Overmyer. “We hit better, fielded better and just did better.”

“Better” might be an understatement, as the bats came alive for Demopolis as they cranked out 22 hits on the night.

After shutting Greensboro out in the top half of the first inning, Demopolis quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead on big hits by Henry Overmyer and Hunter Thrash.

In the second inning, Greensboro was able to put across a run to cut the lead in half and threatened to score more, but a great catch in the outfield by Christian Boykin kept Demopolis’s lead safe.

In their half of the second, Demopolis made its move. After two quick hits by Trey Malone and Tyler Elmore, Trey Murdock came to the plate and slammed a double to drive in both of them.

Boykin then stepped up and followed his big catch in the outfield with a huge triple to drive in Murdock.

The Demopolis team was able to bat around in the inning, which ended with Elmore getting thrown out at home attempting to get an inside-the-park grand slam. When the dust settled after the third out, it saw Demopolis heading into the top of the third with a 10-1 lead.

The top of the third inning was not without controversy.

A play at third base and a question of whether or not time was called to deaden the ball allowed Greensboro to get runners on second and third. Greensboro went on to score two runs in the inning to get the score to 10-3.

After Demopolis came back with three runs of its own, Greensboro was down to their final three outs, but they were able to come up big with one run to extend the game.

Greensboro continued its good play with a double play to get two quick outs on the Demopolis team, but after Elmore singled yet again, Tyler Pipkins stepped up to the plate. With two outs and a runner on, Pipkins ended the game right there with a huge shot that rolled to the fence for a game-ending inside-the-park home run.

Coach Overmyer said that the difference between Wednesday night and Tuesday night was his team’s ability to just settle down.

“They were just more relaxed tonight,” said Overmyer. “They took the pressure off of themselves.”
