Local cable customers will notice a few changes to their lineup with the new year.

Demopolis CATV President Lynn Goldman said his company intends to add more Alabama local affiliates, replacing several of those based out of Mississippi.

The current line up calls for the addition of WBRC Fox 6 out of Birmingham, which is expected to replace WGBC Fox of Meridian.

WSFA, an NBC affiliate of Montgomery, is scheduled to replace Meridian affiliate Fox30. Meridian CBS affiliate WMDN is also expected to be dropped since CATV already offers Selma CBS affiliate WAKA.

“This improves the news, sports and weather reports for Demopolis,” Goldman said. “It will be more about Alabama and less about Mississippi.”

WVUA, a local Tuscaloosa-based station, will be moved to a different channel to increase its profile on local television dials.

“They carry a local newscast but they do a lot with University of Alabama sports,” Goldman said. “It’s a good channel for sports fans.” The changes are expected to be implemented by Jan. 1.
