Two Demopolis Police Officers were uninjured in a two-vehicle accident Saturday night.

The two cruisers, which collided with one another, were responding to a call when the accident occurred.

“A woman called 911 to report a man had taken something from her purse,” Police Chief Tommie Reese said. “She told 911 that she was behind the vehicle and the officers were en route to their location.”

The wreck, which occurred around 8 p.m. Dec. 31 near Lock 4 heading north, badly damaged the two cars. However, one of the vehicles was a 2003 Ford Crown Victoria and scheduled for replacement.

Reese said one of the officers likely misjudged his stopping distance which would have been a possible contributing factor in the accident.

Alabama State Trooper Post in Selma is investigating the accident. Reese declined to name the officers involved, citing the ongoing investigation.
