‘Substance Misuse’ event planned for June 5

Bradford Health Services will host “The United States of Numb: Current Trends in Substance Misuse” at Comfort Inn’s breakfast suite on June 5 from 6-8 p.m.

Angela R. Camp will present the free substance abuse awareness event. Community Representative Dani LaPlant said Camp has been the speaker for a number of Bradford educational events, which all cover topics related to drugs and addiction.

“The United States of Numb” is the first presentation Bradford has put on in Demopolis since opening the detox unit at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital and will cover current drug trends and the process of addiction. LaPlant will also be available before and after the event to answer any questions about the detox unit.

“Since we have a detox center here, we want to educate the community,” she said.

Attendees will learn about various kinds of substance abuse as well as signs and symptoms of abuse and addiction. The purpose of this event, and many of Bradford’s others, is to deter addiction.

LaPlant said that Bradford is open to host other presentations in the community as well, and many topics are available by request.

“If people want it, we’ll do it,” she said.

The event is open to everyone ages 18 or older and will include refreshments. There is a 40-seat limit with additional standing room.

“The United States of Numb” is sponsored by Bradford Health Services Detox Unit at BWMMH. For more information, email LaPlant at dlaplant@bradfordhealth.net.
