Pickle named BWWMH Auxiliary Member of the Year

Mary Pickle was recently named 2018 Volunteer of the Year by the Bryan W. Whitfield Auxiliary. Pickle has been a pink lady for three years and averages 300 volunteer hours a year.

She was voted by her peers and is very effective in the way she fulfills her role as a volunteer. Pickle works the hospital’s main lobby and assists patients with their appointments, helps patients in and out of wheel chairs, walks patients to their assigned department and helps keep things tidy.

Mary Pickle was recently named the Bryan W. Whitfield Auxililary Member of the Year for 2018.

Pickle is always a friendly face for the hospital’s visitors, and her work ethic encourages others to work hard. She always encouraging others with her kind words.

She runs a tight ship at the front desk and members of BWWMH’s team. The Auxiliary appreciates her attention to details, especially when it comes to patients. She has a desire to help others and is prompt to assist and come to someone’s aide. Pickle is easy to talk to and an excellent listener. She is loyal, sincere, wise and has a servant’s heart.

“Mary is not the type of volunteer who wants recognition for her hard work – she wants all the glory to go to God.  She has a light that shines through her and she enjoys sharing it (her love for God) with others. This award was well-deserved,” Volunteer Manager Stephanie Hoggle said.

Pickle said she was shocked when she was honored with the award.

“I can’t remember receiving an award for anything, but to receive one for something that I love to do really surprised me because I love what I do here. It’s a ministry to me.”

She added that the smile of an Auxiliary member may be the only smile that some people see all day, and it’s one of the reasons why she loves being a pink lady.
