8U All-Stars win district title, advance to final day of state tourney
The Demopolis 8U All Star team played in the 8U Cal Ripken State All Star Tournament this past week in Muscle Shoals. The All Star team consisted of players from Demopolis and Livingston that made up the regular season league.
The team’s first tournament engagement resulted in their winning the district championship in Butler to earn a spot in the state tournament. Next, they won three of four games in pool play at the state tournament, defeating Monroe, Wadley, and Flomaton with the one loss being to Fairhope-A, who went on to win the state tournament. This earned them a spot to play in the championship tournament. They lost their game against Mims-A of Mobile that put them out of the single elimination tournament play on the last day.
They raffled off a Yeti cooler and a fishing trip to Soggy Bottom Lodge. Tommie Jean Gilbert won the cooler and Lisa Anderson won the trip. Players and parents are most appreciative to the people and businesses who supported them so generously. In addition to the many people in the communities who purchased tickets, Demopolis 8U All Stars would like to thank their sponsors: ALFA Insurance, Naomi Allen, Bank of York, Batter Up, Robert Beard, Rita Bonner, Camilla’s Boutique, Cash Savers, City of Livingston, Colony Supply and Printing, Conway Tree Services, Crawford & Patrenos, Ken Daniels, Diamond Jim’s, Donna and Bird Dial, Larry Dial, Gaddy Electric, Farm and Builders Supply, Goldman Construction, Rodney Granec, Peggy and Chris Hawley, J.
