Friends of Gaineswood plans Harvest Fest, Oct. 15

On Saturday, Oct. 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Gaineswood’s local nonprofit group, the Friends of Gaineswood, will host a fun-filled day of fall themed activities at Harvest Fest.
A gate admission fee of $5 for adults and $2 for children 6-18 admits guests to all activities, including a tour of the house from the room under the observatory ring to the basement. On the grounds visitors will find a county fair style atmosphere with children’s crafts, old-fashion games for all ages, a pie and cake contest, and a textile exhibit. BBQ sandwiches, chips, and a drink will be sold so that guests can spend the day enjoying the festivities without having to leave early to locate a place for lunch.
Most activities are ongoing, but a special tour of the basement will be given at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Come and learn the “Fact Behind the Fiction” of the Gaineswood ghost story.
The baking contest will accept entries and award prizes in various categories. The entry deadline is 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15. Judging will be from 10 to 11 a.m., with the winners announced at noon. The needlework exhibit will be accepting entries from all age groups in both modern and heirloom categories. There is no fee for either contest and entries for the needlework may be submitted in advance at Gaineswood, Oct. 11-14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
