Linden track sends 20 to state

The Linden High School track team had several athletes qualify for the state meet at sectionals this past weekend. The Class 1A-3A state meet will be in Selma at Memorial Stadium on May 3-4.

Overall, both the boys and girls team won the sectional meets.

Anthony Robinson qualified for state in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.08 seconds. In the 200-meter dash, Marquise Shelton qualified with a time of 24.01 seconds.

Javarius Goins qualified in the 400-meter dash with a 54.75 second run. Kynard Craig also qualified in the 400 with a 55.1.

Goins will also represent the Patriots in the 800-meter run, as he qualified with a time of 2:13.

Dewayne Charleston will run the 3200-meter run in the state tournament after posting a time of 12:17.16 at sectionals, and Tywan Smith also qualified in the 3200 with a time of 12:50.21.

Cordarius Scruggs, Demarcus Gilmore and Jamal Lewis all qualified for the 110-meter hurdles, and Scruggs qualified for the 300-meter hurdles as well.

The 4×100 team of Devonte Knox, Samuel Monroe, Robinson and Shelton qualified with a time of 44.23. The 4×400 team of Robinson, Knox, Craig and Goins qualified, as well as the 4×800 team of Craig, Goins, Jason Perkins and Jamon Evans.

Jamal and Jalen Lewis, along with Knox all qualified in the triple jump, Craig qualified in the high jump and Robinson and Jamal Lewis qualified for the long jump.

Chris Rogers, Jeffery Stacy and Smith all qualified in the shot put, while Shelton, Rogers and Smith all qualified in the discus throw. Rogers also qualified in the javelin throw.

For the Linden girls, Amber Sewell qualified in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:07.71, and Tomysha Boykins earned a spot at state with a 1:08.95.

In the 800-meter run, Shaquinta Jackson and Sewell will both represent the Patriots at state. Jackson will also run in the 1600-meter run for the Patriots.

Samone Jackson, with a time of 19.98, will run the 100-meter hurdles for Linden at state, and Alexis Johnson and Alice Boone will run in the 300-meter hurdles.

The girls 4×100, 4×400 and 4×800 teams all qualified for state as well.

Cierra Jones will participate in the long jump at state for Linden, and Shaquinta Jackson will compete in the triple jump.

Jones will also throw in the shot put, and Johnson will compete in the discus throw.
